About the event

Part of Memorial University's Research Week 2024. Film and panel discussion. In 1983, a group of 9 individuals risked their lives by beginning a hunger strike in a desperate plea to government to release funds owed to them.  It was an act of courage and determination fuelled by a hunger for justice - justice for their families, for those who came before them, and for those who would come behind.

Director Noel Joe narrates this compelling documentary and recounts the tale with first-hand commentary from the hunger strikers, those who assisted their efforts in 1983, as well as family members.
