Community Circles

Rabbittown Community Centre (RTCC)

Working with RFNL, tisia procopio stemp facilitates community and youth circles and assists in the development of restorative justice projects at Rabbittown Community Centre (RTCC) in downtown St. John’s, NL.

Members of the community (adults, ages 29 – 82) gather together every week to circle up as a way to build relationships and discuss neighbourhood concerns.  They are currently collaborating on a Rabbittown services handbook and resources to share ideas and assist local organizations in the formation of circle groups in their own communities. tisia also facilitates youth circles at RTCC, where teens meet one evening a week to examine challenges surrounding life at school and talk about the sociocultural complexities of young adulthood.  The youth group has worked collectively on performance projects and organized events in conjunction with the adult group including poetry readings, storytelling circles, and filmmaking, and are currently producing a podcast in an effort to empower local youth and raise community voices and awareness in response to issues brought forth in circle discussions.
