About the event
This presentation shares the story of Kathy Walsh’s journey as an emerging researcher learning to see knowledge through a different lens. She explores how she began loosening her reliance on Western research methodologies and shifting toward Indigenous ways of knowing, doing, and being, approaches that situate research as a relational process that can respectfully complement Indigenous epistemologies.
Through personal narratives, moments of uncertainty, and the generous guidance of community members and knowledge holders, Walsh reflects on how her idea of how research should look has transformed from seeking definitive answers to fostering relationships built on respect, reciprocity, and responsibility. As she continues to learn and unlearn, this journey has reshaped not only how Walsh conducts research but also who she is becoming within this work.
Kathy Walsh is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Education at Memorial University and a member of the Miawpukek Mi’kmaq First Nation.
