In collaboration with Community Justice Connect (CJC), a provincial scan, Restorative Justice in Newfoundland and Labrador: a catalogue, summary and history July 2024, was initiated to identify all people and organizations with experience in and an understanding of restorative justice. We invite all contributors to review the Scan document and use the contact form on this page to send corrections and revisions as this is a live document .

Over twenty interviews were held and information collected from these resulted in this report which is comprised of several parts: part 1: a catalogue of active agencies and individuals, their services, and their contact information; and part 2: a collated summary of the information provided through these interviews including recommendations for growth to benefit the people of NL;

Part 3 is a list if RJE mentors in schools and part 4 is a report on restorative justice in NL schools by dr. dorothy vaandering (2021). Finally, part 5 is a brief history of restorative justice in the province by vaandering and Catherine Ann Kelly.

This significant publication is unique in its inclusion of Indigenous and non-Indigenous participants modelling a way forward for authentic collaboration in NL amongst various participants that are coming together around a common goal for changing current harmful approaches for addressing harm and difficult situations. Already, the early drafts have generated important conversations amongst stakeholders and those included in the document. RFNL anticipates that its launch in April/May 2024 will result in greater collaboration for moving restorative justice forward in NL, and requiring RFNL to expand its services for creating, nurturing and facilitating meetings that will allow advocates to establish and strengthen their connections.
